Abel Tasman sau vaslasii lenesi/Abel Tasman or the lazy rowers

Cristina e pe jumatate galbena, pe dea-ntregul uda.

Cristina has turned an interesting shade of yellow and she is wet and salty. I struggle to keep our direction. The sea on which we try to keep our precarious balance is on the verge of laughing at us.

This is, in brief, the first half day in Abel Tasman. No pain no gain or, better, pain, some gain. We stopped half way on an uninhabited island except for birds and the occasional seal. We were like Robinson Crusoe except with kayaks and rain gear. From here we rowed for one more hour and settled on a beach determined to stop with the kayaking and get to our bean cans.

Clisee cu picioare in nisip.

The rest one and a half day, 17 km gently rolled between temperate rainforest, the sea, birds and insects. We walked on a deserted beach under moonlight with the night sounds of the forest a few meters away. Walking cliches. We got thorough inspections by bumblebees, sandflies and, much more pleasant, curious and definitely not shy birds.

Mountain, rainforest, sea – repeat for 50km and you get Abel Tasman. We saw about half.
