La Serena was a restful spot on our way down south. It’s strong points: cheap airfare from San Pedro (exceptionally), Elqui Valley (important pisco production region) and astronomical observatories (we visited Mamalluca).

Elqui was probably prettier under the sun but the wines and pisco and the hitchhiking were really good. We enjoyed the beach, observatory and city as well.

La Serena a fost o oprire de odihna in drumul nostru spre sud. Principalele avantaje: bilet de avion ieftin din San Pedro, valea Elqui (cea mai importanta zona de productie a piscoului in Chile) si observatoare astronomice (am vazut Mamalluca).

Elqui ar fi fost probabil mai frumoasa sub soare dar vinul, piscoul si autostopul au fost foarte placute. Ne-a placut plaja, orasul si observatorul.

Or the city where we chilled. The entire town breathes hedonism: chocolate, coffee, good food and craft beers. Add mild weather, friendly locals, some more chocolate and some awesome volcanoes towering over all and you got great Peruvian City. Witha breathtaking monastery.

Orasul unde am luat-o catinel, impinsi de la spate de atmosfera hedonista: ciocolata, cafea, mancare buna si bere locala. A mai adăugat orașul o vreme blanda, localnici prietenosi, ciocolata in plus si 3 vulcani ce completeaza peisajul orasului. Si o manastire colorata si superba.

And because all of this was not enough, how about trekking the second largest canyon in the world. Arequipa has you covered.

Si pentru ca nu era destul, trekking in al doilea canion din lume ca adancime. Arequipa are tot ce ai nevoie.
