Gibon Experience

Pozele nici ele.

Hard to know where to start. The movies and photos below do not do justice to the experience. They can not recreate the perspective.

For two days we flew over the jungle. Fast, on steel cables buzzing over us, up at tens of meters, over the thick forest and a river. The moment you’re out of the foliage and realize you’re 50 or 100m up above the thick jungle your thoughts freeze. It was beautiful and terrifying – each zipline leaving you gasping for air in awe and fear.

When we did not fly above the jungle we slept with in treehouses up 100m in a tree. I vividly remember looking at water form the shower dripped from the wooden planks floor and took a while to get down.

We just finished the gibbon experience. Photos coming soon!

Vang Vieng

As usual English bellow.

Internetul in Laos lăsa de dorit.

Internet takes a cue from local customs in Laos. It flows slowly, unevenly and can be unreliable. Even late.

After our eventful Bolaven plateau tour we headed to Thakhek to visit Kong Lot Cave. 45 minutes speeding on an underground river on close to total darkness. This and the mountains going there and back made the stop in Thakhek worth it.

After a one night stop in Vientiane we are now enjoying Vang Vieng. This format party capital of Laos (see this Guardian article for a description of how life flowed here two years ago) Vang Vieng is slowly repositioning itself as an outdoor activity hub. The party is still going but it’s more subdued and more respectful of locals. The city is surrounded by beautiful karst mountains and a decepitfully sleepy looking river snakes around it. The thick jungle covers everything.

We spent one day exploring the city and one day exploring the jungle: the trek was the best jungel trek yet. No one on the trek, no signs of civilisation for km in sight, a secret river and waterfall.

Today was rithmed by food: late breakfast at a local organic mullbery farm and cheesecake coming at 4.
